The Infant Dom Henrique Chair
Atlantic Island Studies and Globalization, and now it is linked to the Chair of
Global Studies at Open University/CIPSH/UNESCO and this association
gathered efforts to editing the Rio-Grandense Collection. The southernmost
Brazilian political-administrative unit, Rio Grande do Sul has a background
history full of peculiarities in relation to the other regions of Brazil, establishing
an original society in several of its foundations. From colonial times to
contemporaneity, the people and land from Rio Grande do Sul were built from

the indelible frontier position, resulting in a true amalgam between Brazilian,
Portuguese and Latin American people (considering here Argentina, Uruguay
and Paraguay). The Rio-Grandense Collection has as its fundamental intention
the dissemination of intellectual production on various themes about Rio
Grande do Sul, with focus on approaches of a cultural, historical and literary
nature.
